The Grand Round Majorca Cycle Ride

Day 1 (Palma airport to Valldemossa –max 67 km)

Arrive at Palma Airport late am

Collect any hire bikes and assemble remainder bikes at the airport.

Cycle through the interior lowlands to Santa Maria. From  Santa Maria either hug the southern edge of the Sierra del Norte –mountain chain and then take the direct climb up to Valldemossa or take an excursion into the mountains along the remote and peaceful Orient valley to Bunyola before making the final climb to Valldemossa.

Then a few km further onto the Corniche road to our hotel El Encinar overlooking the North Coast.

Overnight in 3* accommodation with dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 (Valldemossa round trip –97km (along the Corniche road around the fabulous western peninsular)

Commence along the Corniche road towards Puigpunyent, a remote mountain village along a narrow winding and undulating road.

Continue to Galilea –another mountain village which has become an artists colony.

We soon reach Capdalla –a non-descript village before dropping down to the resort of Perguera (the nearest you get to the commercialised coastline) after which we swing west to the pretty resort of Camp del Mar and finally to Port Andratx – at the SW extremity of the island. It is a photogenic place at which you are likely to ponder.

We then climb up to the main town of the SW of the island, Andratx, after which a significant climb brings us to the start of the Corniche Road

The scenery along this road is quite spectacular with endless coastal vistas from viewpoints at which you will surely stop.

We pass through the villages of Estellences and Banyalbufar and finally repeat the last 10km of the start of the day's route back to the hotel.

Day 3 (Valldemossa to Alcudia.  Totally along the spectacular Corniche and mountain road with views of sea and mountains – up to 80km with many hills)

We commence by continuing along the cornice road through Deia and dropping to sea level at Soller.

A short excursion takes us to Port Soller

We now experience the major climb of the Ride – up to 3,500 ft from sea level over 20km taking us to the highest pass in Majorca

There is an alternative – and that is to take the boat to the remarkable cove of Sa Calobra and then to climb the 11.5km and 2,500 ft snake road to join the main route again. This route saves 15km of cycling.

Its now on to the pretty mountain lake of Gorg Blau and then the big descent to Pollenca –admittedly with a few undulations!

Its then just a short hop to Alcudia where we will stay in apartments for 2 nights.
