Portugal – Cycling in Paradise

•Accommodation at beautiful guesthouse with caring hosts
•No packing and unpacking, just cycling at your own pace and relaxing!
•Beautiful rolling landscape with vineyards, olive groves, cork oaks and grazing land
•Several wine tasting possibilities and very good Alentejo wine
•Mediaeval villages and Évora historical centre

These tours combine the accommodation at a lovely guesthouse, set in the countryside, with the discovery of the Alentejo by bike. Every day, after our delicious breakfast, we invite you to indulge on a beautiful bike ride.

At your arrival we will supply you with a bike, maps for the routes and route instructions. We will also give you historical descriptions of monuments you can visit along the way and suggestion of places to visit such as wineries, churches, museums, art crafts producers, etc.

With all these information and our expert advice you will be able to, on your arrival, make a plan for your week/weekend. You’ll be cycling by yourself, so you can choose exactly what you want to visit and make your trip as gastronomic, cultural or relaxed as you wish!

The great advantage of this tour is that you don’t have to pack and unpack everyday, and the farm is simply lovely and a great place for a long stay.

Portugal is a great cycling country, and the Alentejo is the perfect region, because there is little traffic, the landscape is beautiful and it's a very well preserved region.

Along your cycling days you will visit castles, churches, artisans, wine producers and typical family owned cafés. The landscape changes from olive groves to vineyards and cork oaks, from granite to schist and to marble.

The accomodation suggested is mostly in palaces, convents, castles or lovely farms. You'll feel you're sleeping like queens and kings!

You start in the small village of Alvito, very famous for its manueline architecture, and from there cycle to Évora, impressive city classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. In Évora you’ll explore the megalithic monuments.Continue to Monsaraz, the lovely white castled village with a panoramic view over the biggest artificial lake of Europe, and cycle through Terena and its impressive sanctuary. The tour then goes to Vila Viçosa, where you can visit the famous Ducal Palace, and finishes in Estremoz, the city of the «white gold» (marble).

The days are relaxing and easy. You’ll do between 35 and 50km. Roads are mostly undulating. This means that you rarely have big climbs, but go slightly up and down several times. We mix some dirt roads with asphalt, but most of the tour is on asphalt. The dirt road connexions give the tour a special link to nature.
